Going the Extra Mile
               
Origin Windows worked on the Waikato Student Centre redevelopment project, and was the joint winner of the Best Use Of Glass Award in the Window Association of New Zealand’s Design Flair Awards, held in June 2011. “The redevelopment of this existing University building was designed as a 5 Green Star rating building as this was a project of national significance,” says Annette Jowsey of Origin Windows. “During the manufacture process we had to allow for structural steel to pass through the curtain wall glass. This required a very high degree of accuracy.”

The team at Origin were not afraid to think big. “To meet the strength requirements the glass was required to be structurally glazed and we understand this project to be one of the largest horizontal structurally glazed panelised projects in Australasia,” says Jowsey.

Fletcher Construction worked alongside Origin Windows on the Student Centre. “I have been very impressed by the quality of the finished product and I believe that the success of the project was due to the fact that the team from Origin really did go the extra mile to ensure that everything ran smoothly,” says Tony Brown, Project Manager from Fletcher Construction.

As a member of the Window Association of New Zealand, all the windows and doors supplied by Origin Windows are independently type tested to comply with the relevant New Zealand performance Standards and New Zealand Building Code requirements. 
On this project Origin Windows chose Viridian Glass to perform the structural glazing in a specially developed area of the Origin manufacturing factory.  Stage 2 curtain wall south and the atrium are nearing completion mid 2011 which presents different architecture and impressive spaces which we hope to present at next years WANZ awards evening .

Because Windows, Doors and Glazing are individually engineered in accordance with these standards for each building site location throughout New Zealand, customers are well satisfied with the performance of products supplied by members of the Window Association of New Zealand Inc.
