Mental Health

- a resource for those wanting to help others

WANZ supports Mental Health in New Zealand

The overall aim of this section is to provide a resource for those with family and friends who are battling mental disorders.

Health statistics reveal that over 20% of the population is, at some time during their lifetime, affected by mental illness.

For example, telephone helplines set up specifically to help teens, report around 750,000 calls received annually associated with coping with life problems, abuse, depression and self harm. Teenagers say they contact helplines because they cannot talk face to face with adults about their problems.

Understanding the condition/s and responding appropriately is a huge help to the person who is unwell.

Resources

There is lots of good New Zealand based information and support scattered across the internet.

This site aims to make that information more accessible.
