WANZ WIS An Alternative Solution for the Installation of Windows and Doors Click here to jump down the page to the download area
About WANZ WIS The Window Association of New Zealand (WANZ) has developed and tested this Alternative Solution for the installation of all windows and doors in NZS 3604 type construction. The “External Moisture” requirements of the New Zealand Building Code Clause E2 (refer E2 9.1.10.1 Scope) recognizes that E2 AS/1 is NOT a suitable solution for many aluminium window and door designs which will instead require specific design. WANZ WIS is a ready-made and tested specific design solution with wide application. The most complex bi-fold, stacker or multi-operator window unit can now be installed in exactly the same way as the simplest of windows and doors. The same way every time means there is less chance of error. An important difference between the WANZ WIS Solution and E2 AS/1 is that WANZ WIS provides a much easier method of supporting the window – a factor which is critical to the long life and product warranty of every window, and the methods remain the same irrespective of the size of window unit. This Alternative Solution has been dubbed ‘WANZ WIS’ (the WANZ Window Installation System) and is the result of three years of research, development and testing by the WANZ Technical Committee. This committee comprises members of the technical, design, and R&D personnel of each of the Proprietary System Suppliers of Aluminium Joinery to the New Zealand building industry. Accordingly each of the major window brands supports this industry endorsed solution. Each of the details has been painstakingly developed, including consideration from interfacing trades when assessing the “do-ability” of the methods. The combination of this input, excellent weathertightness and the often overlooked issue of window support, culminate in an innovative and robust solution for the installation of windows and doors. The WANZ WIS Cavity Construction details have been tested in accordance with the Department of Building and Housing approved E2 VM/1 test methods and meet the requirements of E2/VM1. In the absence of a verification method for Direct Fixed Cladding Systems, AS/NZS 4284:1995 Testing of Building Facades test method was used to test the building elements of the WANZ WIS direct fix solutions. These details are now available, free of charge, from this page. Copies of brand specific versions of the WANZ WIS details will be available through most of the major window brands. WANZ records its thanks to the Department of Building and Housing for its assistance in improving this website information. Our aim is to assist the New Zealand construction industry to do the best window and door installations in the simplest way possible. We welcome your feedback via our contacts page.
